The company’s software development team has effectively shrunk Facebook down so that it fits onto a standard SIM card, enabling anyone with a GSM phone to enjoy the service even if without a data plan.     To cope with the level of noise pollution in today’s oceans, North Atlantic right whales are learning to shout. Shipping noise is a particular problem for baleen whales like the North Atlantic right whale, because their calls are roughly the same pitch. If the noise is disrupting the whales’ communication, it would be bad news for the species.

    Finland has just passed a law making access to broadband a legal right for Finnish citizens. When the law goes into effect in July 2010, every person in Finland, which has a population of around 5.3 million, will have the guaranteed right to a one-megabit broadband connection.

    Trailrunner7 writes “In a column on Threatpost, Bruce Schneier writes that the recent security breach at Newark Airport shows that fixing a given security problem isn’t always the right move. ‘An unidentified man breached airport security at Newark Airport on Sunday, walking into the secured area through the exit, prompting an evacuation of a terminal and flight delays that continued into the next day.
