Consistent to his views, Mr. Murdoch wants to defend his book editors by killing the cheaper solution. ‘”We don’t like the Amazon model of selling everything at $9.99,” Murdoch said. “They pay us the wholesale price of $14 or whatever we charge,” he said. “But I think it really devalues books, and it hurts all the retailers of the hardcover books.’”

    An anonymous reader writes “A company claims it has the technology to make writing on touchscreens more like writing with pencil and paper, when the harder you press the thicker the line you produce. The technology uses a material called Quantum Tunneling Composite (QTC), the resistance of which is extremely sensitive to pressure, unlike today’s touchscreen phones, which might be fine for basic finger-pointing, but they are poor at gauging the pressure (more…)

  • T-Mobile Backs Off Plan To Charge $1.50 For Paper Bills

    netbuzz writes “Following a torrent of customer complaints, bad publicity and the threat of a class-action lawsuit, T-Mobile has abandoned a plan announced this summer to charge any customer wanting a paper bill $1.50 per month. While the news is being cheered by many T-Mobile customers, it’s not going to be as popular with others who praised the extra fee as an environmentally sound inducement to reduce paper use.”
