Lubna Hussein, a female Sudanese journalist, has been jailed for a month after refusing to pay a fine for “dressing indecently” (i.e., wearing pants). She says she didn’t want to give the verdict any legitimacy by paying the fine. Under Sudanese law, she could have received up to 40 lashes for the “crime.”
