  • Passport Database Outage Leaves Thousands Stranded

    linuxwrangler (582055) writes Job interviews missed, work and wedding plans disrupted, children unable to fly home with their adoptive parents. All this disruption is due to a outage involving the passport and visa processing database at the U.S. State Department. The problems have been ongoing since July 19 and the best estimate for repair is “soon.” The system “crashed shortly after maintenance.”

  • NYC Governor Wants To Expand DNA Database

    crimeandpunishment writes “If Governor David Paterson has his way, New York would take DNA samples from even the lowest level of criminal, doubling the state’s DNA database. He says it would help to both solve crimes and clear people who were wrongly convicted. New York would become the first state in the country to do this.   • ISP Emails Customer Database To Thousands

    Barence writes “British ISP Demon Internet has mistakenly sent out a spreadsheet containing the personal details of more than 3,600 customers with one of its new ebills. The spreadsheet contains email addresses, telephone numbers and what appears to be usernames and passwords for the ebilling system. It was attached to an email explaining how to use the new system. Police forces and NHS trusts are among the email addresses listed in the database. (more…)
